Undersealing vs Rustproofing
Two terms people use interchangeably — but they cover different parts of the car and different jobs. Here's the honest breakdown so you know what you actually need.
"Underseal" and "rustproofing" get used as if they mean the same thing, but they describe two different layers of protection. Underseal is a heavy-duty coating applied to the visible underbody and chassis — the rails, sills and floor pans you can see from underneath. Rustproofing is broader: it can include cavity wax injected into box sections, door skins and sills that underseal alone can't reach. Most vehicles benefit from both, and Rayco applies underseal as standard with cavity treatment available where it's needed.

Which should you choose?
If your chassis and underbody are sound and you want lasting protection against Irish road salt, start with a proper underseal — that's where most corrosion begins. If your vehicle is older or you've noticed damp smells, bubbling paint on sills, or it's a vehicle that sits outside a lot, add cavity wax rustproofing on top. Do I need both underseal and rustproofing?
Not always. Sound, newer vehicles usually just need underseal. Older vehicles or those with damp cavities benefit from adding cavity wax too.
Which lasts longer?
Rayco's premium underseal is warrantied up to 7 years. Cavity wax lasts a long time too but can migrate over years and benefit from a top-up.
