Underbody Protection Ireland

The underbody takes the worst of what Irish roads throw at a vehicle — water, salt, grit and stone chips, all day, every day. Rayco provide underbody protection that treats existing rust, welds structural damage where needed, and coats the full underside with a heavy-duty sealant built to last.

Why It Matters

What underbody protection covers

The underbody includes far more than the flat panels you can see from a low angle — sills, wheel arches, floor pans and chassis rails all need coverage.

  • Full underside coated, including sills and arches
  • Rust treated before coating, not sealed over
  • Reduces stone chip and grit damage to the floor pan
  • Protects chassis rails from road salt corrosion
  • Welding available for structurally rotten sections
  • Suits cars, 4x4s, vans and commercial vehicles
  • Up to 7 year warranty on the coating applied
  • Helps maintain resale value on older vehicles
Our Process

How we apply underbody protection

The process is the same discipline every time — inspect, clean, treat, weld if needed, then coat properly.

  1. 01

    Ramp Inspection

The vehicle is raised so every panel, rail, sill and arch underneath can be checked properly.

  2. 02

    Pressure Wash

Built-up mud, oil and old coatings are stripped back to reveal the real condition of the metal.

  3. 03

    Rust Treatment

Any corrosion found is mechanically removed and neutralised before moving to the next step.

  4. 04

    Structural Welding

If rust has already perforated metal, we weld in fresh sections to NCT standard.

  5. 05

    Underbody Coating Application

A heavy-duty coating is sprayed across the full underside, into seams, cavities and rail sections.

  6. 06

    Inspection & Warranty

We check coverage is complete and hand over warranty details before the vehicle leaves.

Applications

Vehicles we treat

Underbody protection needs vary by vehicle type — we scale the process accordingly.

Family Cars

Daily drivers exposed to salted roads through the winter months, especially in coastal or rural areas.

4x4s & SUVs

Vehicles that see mud, water crossings and rough terrain benefit from heavier underbody coverage.

Vans & Commercials

High-mileage vehicles that spend long hours on the road and outside overnight.

Motorhomes & Campervans

Larger underbodies that need thorough, even coverage across chassis and floor sections.

The Underbody Takes the First Hit

Every stone chip, splash of salted slush and puddle crossing hits the underbody before anywhere else on the vehicle. It's the area most exposed and least visible day to day, which is exactly why it's usually the first place rust takes hold unnoticed.

Underbody Protection FAQ

Common questions about underbody protection

+What does underbody protection include?

It covers the full underside of the vehicle — chassis rails, sills, wheel arches and floor pans — treated for rust and coated with a heavy-duty sealant, not just a light wax wipe.

+How much does underbody protection cost in Ireland?

Cost varies with vehicle size and underside condition. Send WhatsApp photos and we'll give you an honest quote before you visit.

+How is underbody coating different from underseal?

In practice they describe the same core service — a protective coating applied to the underside. We use the terms interchangeably for the heavy-duty coatings we apply after rust treatment.

+Do you weld before applying underbody protection?

Where rust has already eaten through metal, yes. Coating over structurally rotten sections without welding first only hides the problem temporarily.

+How long does underbody protection last?

Our heavy-duty coatings carry up to 7 years warranty when applied to a properly prepared underbody, well beyond what wax-based DIY products offer.

+Do you protect the underbody of vans and 4x4s?

Yes — vans, 4x4s and commercial vehicles make up a large share of our underbody protection work given the mileage and terrain they cover.
