Is undersealing worth it in Ireland?
Yes — for almost every vehicle driven daily on Irish roads, undersealing is worth it. A full underseal costs a few hundred euro and prevents chassis welding bills of €900-€2,500, NCT failures, and in the worst cases a vehicle being written off on rust alone.
The cost of doing nothing
Irish roads are gritted heavily from October to March, and that salt gets thrown straight onto the chassis, sills and subframe by the wheels. Combined with our damp climate and short, stop-start journeys that never let the underside dry out properly, an unprotected chassis can go from solid to seriously corroded in under a decade.

The NCT angle
Corrosion is one of the most common reasons Irish vehicles fail the NCT. A chassis rail, sill or subframe mount that's rusted through is a straight fail, and the repair has to be done — plus undersealed — before a re-test will pass. Resale value
A vehicle with a documented underseal history and a solid, rust-free underside is straightforwardly worth more at resale or trade-in than one with visible corrosion. Buyers and dealers both check underneath, and a clean chassis is one less thing for a buyer to negotiate you down on.
When it's most worth it

When it matters less
A car that's dry-stored, does very low mileage, or is being sold on within a year gets less benefit — though even then, a coating protects resale value and stops any existing surface rust from progressing.
The honest verdict
For the vast majority of Irish drivers, undersealing pays for itself many times over by avoiding welding bills, NCT failures and lost resale value. It's one of the few pieces of vehicle maintenance where the upfront cost is genuinely small next to what it prevents.
