Waxoyl vs Lanoguard vs Dinitrol — best underseal for Irish roads

Every week we get asked: 'Is Waxoyl any good?' 'What about Lanoguard?' 'Should I ask for Dinitrol?' Here's the straight answer from a workshop that's applied all three.

Waxoyl — the DIY classic

Wax-based, cheap, easy to hand-brush. Fine for a garage-queen classic that never sees salt. On an Irish daily driver it cracks within a winter or two and lets salt water underneath — then rusts the chassis from below the coating.

  • Cost: €40–€80 DIY, €150–€250 hand-brushed
  • Durability in Irish salt: 1–2 winters
  • Application: brush or low-pressure spray
  • Best for: dry-stored classics, not daily 4x4s

Lanoguard — the lanolin option

Sheep-wool lanolin, self-healing, creeps into seams. Good for cavity work and light protection. Downside: soft coating, needs re-applying yearly, and it won't stand up to stone chips on a Land Cruiser doing forest tracks.

  • Cost: €350–€500 applied
  • Durability in Irish salt: ~12 months
  • Application: spray
  • Best for: cavity injection and light-use vehicles

Dinitrol — the professional standard

German rust-proofing system used by manufacturers. Heavy-duty rubberised underbody (Dinitrol 4941 / 447) on the exposed steel plus cavity wax (Dinitrol 1000 / ML) in the box sections. Applied properly in a spray booth it lasts 5–7 years on Irish roads.

  • Cost: €500–€700 for a 4x4, €550–€800 for a van/camper
  • Durability in Irish salt: 5–7 years
  • Application: full spray booth, cavity injection
  • Best for: daily-driven 4x4s, vans, campers, anything on Irish roads year-round

What Rayco uses and why

Full Dinitrol system — heavy-duty rubberised underbody on the chassis and floor pan, cavity wax pumped through every box section. Applied in a spray booth, not a driveway. Backed by a written warranty up to 7 years. That's why customers drive from Cork, Galway, Kerry and Donegal to have it done here.

The honest verdict

For an Irish daily driver: Dinitrol, applied professionally in a booth. Waxoyl is for classics. Lanoguard has its place for cavities but won't survive stone chips alone. WhatsApp underside photos to 087 919 2193 for a firm quote.
