Choosing the right coating
A car that only sees road salt in winter is best served by a wax-based coating that creeps into seams and stays flexible. A pickup or tractor unit working in mud and stone needs something with more body to survive abrasion.

Preparation, then coating
The underside is washed, degreased and dried, loose scale and flaking old product is scraped back, and any corrosion is dealt with before a coating goes near it. Drain holes are kept clear so water can still get out.
