Vehicle Rust Treatment Ireland
Surface corrosion caught early can be cleaned back, treated and sealed. Left alone it eats through the steel and becomes a welding job.
In short
- Rust treatment is for corrosion that has not yet perforated the metal — scale, flaking and surface rust.
- The underside is washed, degreased and scraped back before anything is applied, so the treatment reaches actual metal.
- Treated areas are then sealed and coated, because treatment on its own does not keep water off.
- Send WhatsApp photos of the underside to 087 919 2193 and we'll tell you honestly what the vehicle needs before you travel to the yard.
Treatment or welding — how we decide
On the ramp we work along the underside with a scraper and a hammer. Steel that is scaly but solid can be treated and protected. Steel that gives, flexes or perforates has to be cut out and welded.
We will always tell you which you are looking at before any work starts, and show you photos of why.
What the treatment covers
- Chassis rails and box sections
- Floor pans, sills and jacking points
- Suspension arms, brackets and mounts
- Wheel arches and inner arch areas
- Bulkheads and crossmembers
Why the prep decides the result
Rust treatment sprayed over dirt, grease or loose scale bonds to the dirt, not the steel — which is why cheap jobs flake off within a winter. Most of the work here is cleaning and preparation before anything is applied.
Every repair, step by step
- Vehicle on the ramp for a full underbody assessment
- Underside washed, degreased and dried before anything is applied
- Loose scale and flaking old coatings scraped back
- Any structural corrosion flagged before coating goes on
- Cavities and box sections treated where access allows
- Coating applied evenly to chassis, floor and arches
- Drain holes kept clear so water can still escape
- Photos of the finished underside sent before collection

Frequently asked questions
Can rust be treated instead of cut out?
Only where the metal is still solid. Surface and scaly rust can be cleaned back, treated and sealed. Perforated or soft steel needs welding.
How long does rust treatment last?
It depends on the condition of the vehicle and how it is used, but a properly prepped and coated underside holds up for years on Irish roads.
Do you treat rust before undersealing?
Always. Coating over untreated rust just seals moisture in — the prep is the job.
How do I know which I need?
Send WhatsApp photos to 087 919 2193, or bring the vehicle in for a free chassis check on the ramp.
