4x4 Chassis Welding Ireland

Ladder-frame 4x4s are worth keeping — and worth repairing properly. Outriggers, rails, crossmembers and mounts rebuilt in fresh steel.

In short

  • 4x4 chassis corrosion concentrates in outriggers, rear rails, crossmembers and spring hangers.
  • Because these vehicles hold their value and last, repair usually makes strong financial sense.
  • Repairs are welded in correct-gauge steel, sealed, painted and coated.
  • Send photos to 087 919 2193 for a quote before travelling.

The 4x4 rust pattern

Working 4x4s take mud, water and salt into every box section. Field and beach use is worse again. The result is a predictable pattern: rear rails behind the axle, outriggers, the rear crossmember, spring hangers and the areas around fuel tank and body mounts.

Because the frame is heavy-gauge steel, surface scale can look alarming while the section is still sound — and equally, a small hole can mean a large area is thin. Only a proper ramp inspection tells you which you have.

What we weld on 4x4s

  • Outriggers — front, middle and rear
  • Chassis rails above and behind the rear axle
  • Rear crossmembers and tow points
  • Spring hangers and shackle mounts
  • Body mounts and bulkhead mounting areas
  • Sills, footwells and inner structure

Models we see most

Land Cruiser, Hilux, Defender, Discovery, Ranger, Navara, L200, Wrangler and similar ladder-frame vehicles come through regularly. If your model is not on that list, send photos — the work is the same discipline whatever the badge.

What the job involves

Every repair, step by step

  • Ramp inspection with photos of every corroded area
  • Corroded steel cut back to clean, solid metal
  • Repair sections fabricated in correct-gauge steel
  • MIG welded for full penetration and dressed back
  • Seams sealed so water cannot enter the joint
  • Primed and painted before coating
  • Underbody protection applied over the repair
  • Photos of the finished work before collection

Frequently asked questions

Is 4x4 chassis welding worth it?

Usually yes. Ladder-frame 4x4s hold value and stay useful for years, so rebuilding corroded sections is normally far cheaper than replacing the vehicle.

Can outriggers be replaced?

Yes — corroded outriggers are cut off and new sections fabricated and welded in, then sealed and coated.

Do you work on Land Cruisers and Defenders?

Yes, those are among the vehicles we see most often for chassis work.

How long will a 4x4 chassis repair take?

A single outrigger is short work; multiple sections take longer. We give a timeline once the vehicle has been assessed.

What protection do you recommend afterwards?

Coating the repaired section and the wider underside, plus cavity treatment inside box sections on vehicles used in mud and salt.
