Is chassis rust repair worth it?

Chassis rust repair is worth doing when the corrosion is confined to sections, the rest of the vehicle is sound, and you intend to keep it. It stops being worth doing when corrosion runs through most of the main structure or the repair cost approaches what the vehicle is worth to you.
The case for repairing
- A repaired section is new steel — often better than what came off
- 4x4s, pickups and vans hold value and stay useful for years
- Repair cost is usually a fraction of replacing the vehicle
- Corrosion caught early is far cheaper than corrosion left another winter
The case against
If the rails are perforated along their length, several crossmembers have collapsed and the mounts have torn out of soft steel, you are rebuilding the vehicle rather than repairing it. We would rather tell you that on the ramp than take the money.
How to get a real answer
Guessing from the outside is unreliable, because corrosion works from the inside. A ramp inspection with the underside cleaned back gives an accurate picture and an accurate quote. Send photos first to 087 919 2193 and we will tell you whether the trip is worth making.
