Car Chassis Welding Ireland
Most cars are monocoque, so the sills, floor and inner structure are the chassis. We weld those back to strength and seal them properly.
In short
- On a modern car the sills, floor pan and inner structure carry the load — corrosion there is structural, not cosmetic.
- Repairs are welded in new steel, not filler or bonded plate.
- Sill and floor corrosion is one of the most common NCT failures we repair.
- WhatsApp photos to 087 919 2193 for a price before you book in.
Where car chassis corrosion starts
Cars rot where water sits and cannot drain: inside the sills, in the seams along the floor pan, around the jacking points and in the inner arches. Blocked drain holes in the sill are a classic cause — the sill fills, the water never leaves, and it rots from the inside.
Because it starts inside, the first sign is often a bubble in the paint or a spongy jacking point long after the steel has thinned.
What we weld on cars
- Sills and inner sills
- Jacking points and reinforcement plates
- Floor pans and footwells
- Boot floors and spare wheel wells
- Inner wings and turret areas
- Subframe and suspension mounting points
- Rear beam and axle mount areas
- Seatbelt anchorage areas
Passing the NCT after sill or floor corrosion
The tester is checking whether corrosion has weakened a load-bearing area. A repair that is cut out, welded in correct-gauge steel, sealed and painted addresses exactly that. Filler and underseal over a hole does not, and it will be found.
If you have a fail sheet, send it — it tells us exactly which areas were marked and saves guesswork.
Every repair, step by step
- Ramp inspection with photos of every corroded area
- Corroded steel cut back to clean, solid metal
- Repair sections fabricated in correct-gauge steel
- MIG welded for full penetration and dressed back
- Seams sealed so water cannot enter the joint
- Primed and painted before coating
- Underbody protection applied over the repair
- Photos of the finished work before collection

Frequently asked questions
Do cars have a chassis?
Most modern cars are monocoque — there's no separate ladder chassis, so the sills, floor pan and inner structure do the same structural job and are what gets welded.
Can rusted sills be repaired?
Yes. The corroded section is cut out and a new sill section is welded in, then sealed, painted and coated.
Is welded sill repair NCT acceptable?
A repair done to a proper standard in correct-gauge steel with full-penetration welds is the accepted way to fix corrosion in that area.
How much does car chassis welding cost?
It depends on how much steel is affected. Send photos to 087 919 2193 for an honest range before you travel.
Should I underseal after the repair?
It's the best time to do it — the underside is already cleaned back and accessible.
