Structural Ireland Vehicle Repairs
When corrosion reaches steel that carries load, the repair has to restore strength — not just close a hole. That is the work we do.
In short
- Structural repair covers the steel that carries load: rails, mounts, anchorages, sills and floor structure.
- Corroded steel is removed entirely and rebuilt in correct-gauge steel to match the original section.
- Corrosion near a structural or suspension mounting point is a common NCT failure item.
- Send WhatsApp photos of the affected area to 087 919 2193 and we'll tell you honestly whether it's a repair worth doing before you travel to the yard.
What counts as a structural repair
A structural repair is any repair to steel the vehicle depends on to stay rigid and to hold its suspension, seats and towing points in place. That includes chassis rails and box sections, outriggers and crossmembers, suspension and subframe mounting areas, sills and inner sills, floor structure, and seatbelt anchorage areas.
The distinction matters because the standard is different. A cosmetic panel can be filled and painted. Structural steel has to be replaced with metal of the correct thickness, welded so the join carries load, and sealed so it does not rot again from behind.
How the repair is carried out
- Vehicle on the ramp, area cleaned back to bare metal
- Extent of corrosion established before anything is cut
- Corroded steel removed until sound metal is reached
- Replacement section formed in correct-gauge steel
- MIG welded for full penetration and dressed back
- Seam sealed, primed, painted and coated
Structural corrosion and the NCT
Corrosion within a prescribed distance of a structural or suspension mounting point is treated as a serious defect. If you have a fail sheet, send it with your photos — the repair is then worked to exactly the items the tester recorded, which keeps the retest straightforward.
When we will tell you not to bother
Some vehicles are too far gone for a structural repair to make sense, and we will say so rather than take the work on. Send photos before you travel and you will get an honest answer.
Every repair, step by step
- Vehicle on the ramp — full underbody assessment and photos
- Corroded steel cut back to clean, solid metal
- Repair sections fabricated from correct-gauge steel
- MIG welded, dressed back and checked for full penetration
- Seams sealed to keep water out of the joint
- Primed and painted before any coating goes on
- Underbody protection applied over the finished repair
- Photos of the work sent to you before collection

Frequently asked questions
What is a structural vehicle repair?
A repair to steel that carries load — chassis rails, outriggers, suspension and subframe mounts, sills, floor structure and seatbelt anchorages — done by replacing corroded metal with correct-gauge steel.
Can structural corrosion be filled instead of welded?
No. Filler restores appearance, not strength. Load-bearing steel has to be cut out and welded.
Is structural corrosion an NCT failure?
Corrosion within a prescribed distance of a structural or suspension mounting point is a common failure item. Send the fail sheet and the repair is worked to it.
How do I know if my corrosion is structural?
Send photos of the area on WhatsApp to 087 919 2193 with the vehicle year, make and model and we will tell you what we are looking at.
Is the repair protected afterwards?
Yes — every repair is seam-sealed, primed, painted and coated with underbody protection before the vehicle leaves.
