Underbody Corrosion Repair Ireland

The underside takes everything Irish roads throw at it. We repair what has gone, treat what is going, and coat the lot so it stops there.

In short

  • Underbody corrosion repair covers floor pans, sills, rails, box sections and mounting points.
  • Corroded steel is replaced by welding; sound but affected steel is cleaned back and treated.
  • The whole underside is coated afterwards so the repair is not the weak point.
  • Send WhatsApp photos of the affected area to 087 919 2193 and we'll tell you honestly whether it's a repair worth doing before you travel to the yard.

Why the underside goes first

Everything that damages steel collects underneath a vehicle: road salt, grit, standing water and mud. Mud is the worst of it — it holds moisture against the metal for days after the road has dried.

Factory coatings are good, but a stone chip, a jacking point crushed by a trolley jack or a bolted-on accessory can break the seal and give corrosion a way in.

The repair process

  • Wash and degrease the full underside
  • Remove failed coatings hiding corrosion
  • Cut out perforated steel and weld in new sections
  • Treat and clean back sound areas showing surface rust
  • Seam seal all joints
  • Prime, paint and coat the underside

Repair and protection together

The cheapest time to protect an underside is right after it has been cleaned back and repaired. The prep work is already done, the vehicle is already on the ramp, and every seam is accessible. Doing both in one visit costs far less than doing them separately.

What the job involves

Every repair, step by step

  • Vehicle on the ramp — full underbody assessment and photos
  • Corroded steel cut back to clean, solid metal
  • Repair sections fabricated from correct-gauge steel
  • MIG welded, dressed back and checked for full penetration
  • Seams sealed to keep water out of the joint
  • Primed and painted before any coating goes on
  • Underbody protection applied over the finished repair
  • Photos of the work sent to you before collection

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my underbody is corroded?

Flaking or bubbling coating, orange staining around seams, and steel that sounds dull rather than sharp when tapped. A ramp inspection is the only way to be sure.

Can old underseal hide rust?

Yes, and it frequently does. Cracked underseal lets water behind it and holds it against the steel, so corrosion progresses out of sight.

Should I repair and coat at the same time?

It's the most cost-effective way — the prep and ramp time are shared between both jobs.

Do you work on vans and commercials?

Yes — cars, 4x4s, pickups, vans, commercials and trailers.

How long does it take?

It depends on how much welding is needed. We give a timeline once we've assessed the vehicle.
